LAKESHORE TLC PARK, Taguig City, March 19, 2024 (SDN) — Amid a sizzling sun on Tuesday, Mayor Maria Laarni “Lani” L. Cayetano turned over here this morning, Tuesday, three Fire Trucks, eight Motorcycles, and a number of Fire Fighting Equipment to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
With the sun shining bright above the park, and Laguna de Bay’s waters’ reflections a mesmerizing sight, the lady chief executive did not mind at all sweating as she arrived for the activities.
She also donned a firefighter’s thick jacket and helmet, helped along by BFP personnel, for ceremonial spraying of water.
The activities celebrated the Fire Prevention Month (March). With three new fire trucks, the BFP branch headed in the city by Fire Senior Supt. Eddie W. Tanawan, the fire bureau is expected to strengthen its — and be able to mount a — quicker response to any fire-related emergencies in the city.
In fact, Cayetano pointed out that it is not only during fire incidents the BFP is helping communities, but also in other emergencies unrelated to fire.
“As part of the city’s transformative, lively, and caring (TLC) agenda, the turnover event strengthens Taguig’s commitment to provide prompt disaster and emergency response in its community,” the City Public Information (PIO) said in a statement.
The Fire Olympics, a major part of the Fire Prevention Month, included also Taguig’s first-ever Fire Paralympics and Inter-School Fire Olympics, as well as the 10th Inter-Barangay Fire Olympics.
Participants to the “Olympics” included members of Fire Brigades, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and the BFP Services. The Fire Olympics was aimed at being “a common space for Taguigueños to learn about fire awareness and prevention.”

Taguig Turns Over State-of-the-Art Firefighting Vehicles, Equipment to BFP-Taguig
Underscoring its commitment to enhance public safety and emergency response, the City of Taguig turned over 11 firefighting vehicles – three fire trucks and eight motorcycles – to the Bureau of Fire Protection-Taguig on Tuesday, March 19, as part of the celebration of Fire Prevention Month.
The state-of-the-art vehicles are designed to enhance firefighting capabilities significantly. Each fire truck has a large 500-gallon water tank, ensuring ample supply for combating fires. Another key feature of the trucks is the high-powered fire pump, which can move more water quickly during response.
They are fitted with hose compartments which can hold up to 500 feet of delivery hose and contains roller-shutter cabinets for storing firefighting tools and equipment. These vehicles are equipped with a Public Address system, spotlights, strobe light bar, revolving lights, and a motor siren. Essential equipment like hoses, fireman’s gear, suction hoses, nozzles, wrenches, and safety gear are also onboard for emergencies.
On the other hand, the new motorcycles are specifically designed for faster response to fires and medical emergencies. Each motorcycle is equipped with a fire extinguisher installed on each side and a storage box designed to carry medical supplies.
During the turnover ceremony, which also coincides with the City Fire Olympics, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasized the City’s support for BFP-Taguig’s programs.
“Ang araw po na ito ay araw ng pagpapahalaga natin sa kahandaan ng City Government sa pagtama po sa atin ng mga kalamidad, partikular po ng sunog,” said Mayor Lani. (This is a day for us to give importance to the City Government’s readiness against calamities, particularly fire.)
She also noted that the Taguig City Disaster Risk and Management Office (TCDRMO) works closely with Taguig-BFP in responding to disasters and emergencies in Taguig.
BFP Senior Superintendent Eddie Tanawan thanked the City of Taguig and Mayor Lani for their continuous support. He urged the community to be vigilant to prevent disasters and avoid accidents.
In 2023, to mark her first year back in office, Mayor Cayetano also led the turnover of Php90-Million worth of vehicles and equipment to BFP, Philippine National Police (PNP), and its barangays, staying true to her commitment to prioritize the safety of all Taguigueños. (/)
