COTABATO CITY (SDN) — A bonanza of food for the celebration of Eid’l Fitr has come to the employees of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE),

Eid’l Fitr is the Festival of Breaking the Fast, the celebration at the end of the holy Islamic month of fasting, which in the Philippines started officially on March 12.

Headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, the MBHTE is one of the 15 primary governance entities of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Over the end of March, Iqbal, who wears many hats in the Mindanao peace process, ordered the distribution of several sacks of rice and plenty of grocery products to education ministry’s personnel. Non-teaching and teaching personnel also received Php15,000 assistance.

The food commodities are for MBHTE’s Main Office employees here at the Bangsamoro Government Center (BGC), covering regular and contract service for their Eid’l Fitr celebration, which in the Philippines may come either April 11 or 12. Cotabato City is the Bangsamoro region’s capital.

Ramadan started on March 12 in the Philippines and other countries, while Saudi Arabia and others in the Middle East made the first day of fasting on March 11.

An MBHTE said the commodities distributed to employees comprised of two sacks of 25 kilos of rice for each personnel, plus a container of grocery items such as two liters of Canola Oil, one liter of soy sauce and vinegar,  one kg of ketchup, 500g of powdered juice, one kilo of native coffee, one kilo of brown and white sugar, one pack of coffee mix, 850g of powdered choco malt drink  and milk, 800g of Sotanghon, a fruit jam, and a breading mix.

Additionally, the Php15,000.00 ABE has already been downloaded to teaching and non-teaching personnel across the 11 schools division offices of the Bangsamoro region.

Obviously, the education ministry leadership wants the employees to welcome the celebration of Eid’l Fitr with an abundance of food their families.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. — EKU (✓)
