MANILA (SDN) — Coworking space offerings in the Philippines are increasing to respond to and address the needs of freelancers, professionals, as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Try Google on the impact of working in a coworking space environment and, more chances than not, it will show you that it improves productivity, builds more connections with fellow professionals, including from other industry, or company, among other reasons.

Coworkinginsights.com laid down why.

“Coworking spaces have been found to increase productivity in a number of ways, but it’s for coworking operators to understand what factors to a truly productive workspace.”

The website pointed to “opportunities for collaboration and networking” because in a traditional office setting employees interact only with their own department or company.

“In a coworking space, however, employees have the chance to interact with all sorts of professionals from all sorts of professional backgrounds. This can lead to new ideas,” the Coworking Insights website said.

Other benefits from a coworking space, it added, are having an inspiring environment and flexibility.

In relation with this, GreatWork Global, a coworking service office and shared office space provider, has achieved a significant milestone with the grand opening recently of its fourth branch at the 32nd floor of Mega Tower in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.

Apparently, the company is mindful of providing a space for those who may want a break from a boring situation working in a traditional office setting where one sees the same faces five days a week.

So, what is “coworking”?

Wikipedia says it’s “an arrangement in which workers for different companies share an office space…allows for cost-savings through the use of common infrastructures, such as equipment, utilities and receptionist and custodial services.”

But it is not just offering a conducive environment for everyone who relishes working with others who may have the same mindset, said Nikita Yu, executive director of GreatWork, as she cited her company’s goals.

“But beyond providing office space for small- and medium-sized enterprises, we really want to support Filipinos on their business, expansion, and growth,” Yu points out.

“We are the first home-grown service provider that actually provides end-to-end services. We can help businessmen in terms of planning, design, buying, constructing, and then up to managing the space,” she adds.

Providing such services, according to her, would help Filipino businessmen and even international businesses to focus on the business.

“They no longer have headaches with power outages, no internet, and who will clean the office. So, we are removing that headaches for our clients,” Yu emphasizes.

The GreatWork official said the company is also providing training and workshops for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and other clients.

GreatWork also has its sights on having its fifth branch in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City, Metro Manila, by the end of the Year of the Wood Dragon.

“So, we’re branching out to another CBD [Central Business District],” Yu says.

Started in 2018, GreatWork has its first and second branches in Quezon City, and then the third branch at the 24th floor of Mega Tower.

“We’ve only started with only 500-square meters in Quezon City, targetting IT-BPO [Information Technology-Business Process Outsourcing]. In 2019, we opened our second branch also in Quezon City which catered to the creatives. Constantly, we are growing to address what the Filipino needs,” Yu says.

“And towards 2021 and until now we’ve catered to the largest scale – the expansion of the Filipino businesses and even government,” she notes.

Yu also announced that GreatWork is eyeing to expand in Cebu City and Davao City, in the Visayas and Mindanao, respectively.

“We are eyeing branch expansion there as well,” she says.

One of the company’s social media posts say it “offers a variety of flexible workspaces designed to meet your unique needs. From hot desks to dedicated workstations, we have the perfect setup to suit your style and preferences.” (♧)
