NCMF Conducts Forum on Raising Awareness Concerning Women’s Rights

BAGUIO CITY — The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) has conducted a forum that tackled the importance of raising awareness on the rights of women.

It was organized through the Office of Commissioner for Women Sector Commissioner Dalisay N. Macadawan in partnership with the NCMF-North Luzon headed by Regional Director Atty. Bai Raihanah Sarah T. Macarimpas.

The activity was titled “Awareness-Raising on Laws Pertaining to Women’s Rights” held on April 24 at the Muslim Aeta Community in Nabuclod, Floridablanca, Pampanga. This is conducted together by the NCMF Gender and Development (GAD) Program and in coordination with iERA Philippines coordinator Ustad Mansour Ticsay.

The activity started with an opening du’a delivered by Ustad Mansour and followed by an inspirational message from Comm. Macadawan. This was followed by a lecture/orientation on the salient features of the Magna Carta of Women, Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC), and R.A. 11596 or Anti-Child Marriage Act given by North Luzon staff Atty. Nor-ainah Daragangan.

In her lecture, Daragangan highlighted the violence against women and the protection available to women under the said law. She also emphasized the prohibition against early child marriage as provided under RA 11596.

This was followed by another lecture on the rights of women and children under P.D 1083 or the Code of Muslim Personal Laws given by Ms. Johayra Datlan of Bureau of Muslim Cultural Affairs (NCMF-BMCA).

her lecture, Ms. Datlan discussed rights of women and children under the Shar’iah Law as provided under P.D 1083. Thereafter, an open forum was held wherein the participants were able to ask their questions.

The lectures were followed by the distribution to 100 beneficiaries of food packs consisting of assorted goods facilitated by Ustad Mansour and led by Comm. Macadawan with the assistance NCMF staff. Loot bags containing assorted snacks were also distributed to 100 children. Dates (korma) and assorted clothes donated by NCMF employees were also received by the community leader for distribution to the intended beneficiaries.

Other NCMF employees from Central Office and North Luzon Region also attended the activity.
