BARMM Education Ministry Distributes Madrasah Reference Materials, School Armchairs

COTABATO CITY — Ramping its support for Madaris Education, the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) has distributed a total of 10,988 Islamic Studies and Arabic Language (ISAL) reference materials to the school division of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

The MBHTE’s Directorate General for Madaris Education (DGME) implemented the distribution the other day.

Headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, the MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

On the other hand, the MBHTE-DGME is under the leadership of Director General Tahir Gandawali Nalg, who has been at the forefront of the Islamic Education sector of the Ministry for some years.

A total of 10,988 ISAL reference materials went to the school division of Marawi City. This initiative is one of the endeavors of the Ministry to provide a quality and balanced education in the Bangsamoro region.

New armchairs for Bangsamoro schools.

In a related development, the education ministry also continued its distribution of 1,180 much-needed MBHTE-designed armchairs, this time to the school divisions of Lanao del Sur I, Lanao del Sur II, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Special Geographic Area (SGA), which is now has eight new municipalities after a successful plebiscite recently.

The following are the recipient schools of the armchairs:

1. Biosong Elementary School
2. Dalgan Elementary School
3. Darussalam Institute of Technology, Inc
4. Durian Elementary School
5. Gurain Elementary School
6. Hadji Alim Ulama Memorial School, Inc.
7. Letingan Elementary School
8. Madanding Elementary School
9. Madrasah Alipolo Integrated School, Inc.
10. Ma’had Al-adab Al-Islamy, Inc
11. Maulana National High School
12. Mileb Elementary School
13. Narra Elementary School
14. Taviran Elementary School

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. — E.K. Usman (✓)
