BAGUIO CITY — The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) North Luzon Regional Office led by Regional Director Atty. Raihanah Sarah T. Macarimpas, through the Socio-Economic Development Division (SEDD), has met recently with the Department of Trade and Industry – Cordillera Administrative Region (DTI-CAR) through its Industry Development Division (IDD).
Their recent meeting marked a significant step forward in the promotion and development of the halal industry within the region. The primary agenda was to discuss the organization of a proposed halal trade fair in Baguio City and to explore potential future collaborations related to halal industry programs.
They started the meeting with a presentation of the proposed halal trade fair, aimed at boosting the visibility of halal products and services in both domestic and international markets. The fair intends to attract exhibitors from various sectors such as food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and tourism, showcasing the diverse opportunities within the halal industry.

Representatives of the DTI expressed strong interest in supporting the event, recognizing its potential to enhance trade and investment opportunities. To ensure the success of the proposed initiatives, plans were made to set up a second meeting in which other significant line government agencies and private sectors such as Department of Trade (DA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Tourism (DOT), HRAB, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Baguio State University (BSU) and University of Baguio (UB) may also be invited to further discuss opportunity programs in the Halal Industry.
Further discussions focused on establishing a framework for ongoing cooperation between NCMF and DTI through their Halal Focal, Ms. Kimberly Evangel, to support the growth of the halal industry.
Key areas identified for collaboration included training for halal certification, marketing strategies to promote halal products, and research and development (R&D) initiatives. The DTI committed to facilitating connections with other government agencies and international bodies to leverage additional resources and expertise.
Representatives from the NCMF-North Luzon Regional Office, including Regional Director Macarimpas, Legal Division Atty. Nor-ainah M. Daragangan, SEDD Acting Chief Amin A. Dianalan, Eng’r. Fatimah M. Calbe (DMO 2, SEDD) and Deloraine T. Bernabe (ADAS 3, ORD) were acknowledged.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing a strong commitment to the success of the proposed projects and to the long-term development of the halal industry.
It was emphasized that DTI’s support not only enhances the potential impact of the upcoming trade fair but also strengthens NCMF-North Luzon’s capacity to implement broader industry programs that will benefit its stakeholders.
