PASAY CITY (SDN) — The Property Insurance Law (Republic Act No. 656) has mandated government offices to insure their properties with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
Following this directive, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has insured its fleet of aircrafts, including helicopters, with the state insurance fund.
Related with this, the GSIS, headed by President and General Manager Wick Velozo fulfilled its part of the arrangement as it paid Php232 million on May 27, 2024, the PNP’s insurance claim for the crash of its chopper, an Airbus H-125, registry number RP-9710, on February 19 in Barangay Pandan, Real, Quezon.
One of the ill-fated helicopter’s crew died in the accident. Its two police pilots suffered injuries, but otherwise survived the crash. They were en route to Northern Quezon from the Manila Domestic Airport (MDA) in Pasay City, Metro Manila, on an administrative mission as reported then by the Philippines News Agency (PNA).
The Php232 million payment represents the indemnity for the Airbus H-125’s ill-fated journey.
It can be recalled that in 2021, the GSIS paid its biggest insurance claim to the PNP worth Php343 million for its chopper — a 2017 Bell 429 helicopter — that suffered an accident in San Pedro, Laguna, in 2020. — EDD K. USMAN (/)
