COTABATO CITY — As part of initiatives to elevate the quality of education in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal has made sure of constructing new school facilities in the region.
The immediate goal, apparently, is to add convenience for teachers and learners in various schools in BARMM, like water-related facilities.
Thus, schools that add new facilities are a breath of fresh air, giving students and teachers and learners in general a comfortable and conducive ambiance for teaching and studying.
Funded under the 2022 Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF), the MBHTE recently built Water Sanitation and Hygiene with Water Source Development projects in five BARMM schools.
To achieve this, the MBHTE through its Education Facilities Section (EFS) has turned over the five school projects with a cost of Php4,397,500 to the SDOs ofย Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Special Geographic Area (SGA).
The water-related projects were built at the following schools:ย
1. Damabalas Elementary School
2. Darugao Elementary School
3. Nalapaan Elementary School
4. Pinaring Elementary School
5. South Upi National High School
The Ministry assured that it continued to be committed to ensuring that Bangsamoro learners have access to effective water sanitation and a clean, stable water supply.
In fact, the MBHTE operates under the maxim that “No Bangsamoro learner shall be left behind”.
In a related development, the education ministry through funds from the 2022 Quick Response Fund (QRF) amounting to Php3,122,940 refurbishedย 23 classrooms in Maguindanao del Norte, one of the component provinces of BARMM.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted โYesโ in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11.
