(SDN) July 24, 2024– Embracing its social responsibility to the hilt, Pasig City-based St. Gerrard Construction (SGC) firm steps up its initiatives of giving back to society, particularly residents of this National Capital Region (NCR) urban metropolis.

This is plain to see today, especially as parts of many NCR communities have gone underwater resulting from this week’s Typhoon “Carina” as the weather disturbance enhances the “Habagat” or Southwest Moon, bringing heavy downpour.

Headed by owners Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya and Cezarah Rowena “Sarah” Discaya, SGC announced on its Facebook page its order to its personnel to mount up and fetch and help stranded residents.

The General Contractor and Development Corporation also instructed employees to report for work for half a day to help pack relief goods, such as rice, sardines, and noodles to be distributed to affected residents.

SGC volunteers were asked to go around the city to help stranded Pasig residents.

“All SGC employees, mini dump truck drivers, drop-side truck drivers, you go around the whole of Pasig Sandoval and in all flooded areas where there are many stranded,” SGC said in Filipino.

“SGC Family, report even for half a day, please help repack rice, sardines, and noodles. We will brave the floods.”

The company’s order was addressed to its Fire and Rescue Communication Group, Inc.

As of press time, St. Gerrard Construction Charity Foundation are presently busy packing the relief goods at the firm’s Headquarters.

SGC can also be reached through its Facebook and other social media pages.

In another post, SGC said, “If you need assistance in evacuation in Pasig area, please let us know. We are here to assist.”

SGC General Contractor and Development Corporation is a Quadruple “AAAA” Category. Its Headquarters is at F. Manalo Street. corner J. Pueblo Street, Bambang, Pasig.

It was learned that its Headquarters is a go-to-place for many Pasig residents because of its  programs and services implemented by SGC Charity Foundation.

Curiously, as some members of the media covering Pasig said, even those who were going to the Pasig City Hall to seek assistance were told to go, instead, to SGC for their request.

SGC Corporation’s exercise of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) in these times of great need came as many NCR or Metro Manila communities have gone underwater, prompting Malacanang to order the suspension today of government offices and classes in all levels in the metropolis, which is perennially being inundated every time strong rains come down.

Over in Marikina City, the alarm for the Marikina River has now risen to the third alarm, which necessitates “forced evacuation”.

A TeleRadyo Serbisyo video showed Marikina River is almost at 19 meters.

The alarm system for the river is such that at Level 1 (1st arm), it means at 15 meters above sea level affected residents must “prepare”; Level 2 (2nd alarm) is when the waters rose to 16 meters above sea level, that means “evacuate”; and when the water reaches 18 meters above sea level, which is Level 3 (3rd alarm), the Marikina local government unit (LGU) under Mayor Marcy Teodoro will force affected residents to leave their residents to evacuate.”

Teodoro said on TeleRadyo Serbisyo that eight barangays (villages) of the city are along Marikina River.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) recommended the suspension of classes and work in government offices covered by the NCF effective at 5 a.m., July 24.  NDRRMC’s Executive Director, Undersecretary Ariel F. Nepomuceno signed Memo addressed to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., coursed through Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin. (/)
