TESDA Secretary Suharto Mangudadatu Leads Kickoff Event for 2024 PNSC on Aug. 21-25; TESDA Gets Ready as Host

TAGUIG CITY (SDN) – Filipinos will have a chance to showcase world-class talent when the 2024 Philippine National Skills Competition gets underway on August 21, 25.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is set conduct and host the event at the World Trade Center (TWC) in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

It was learned through a press statement the agency released to reporters the PNSC forms part of the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the manpower agency, which has been producing a pool of skilled Filipinos, whose world-class skills is recognized world over.

Today, August 5, the TESDA Director General, Secretary Suharto Tan Mangudadatu, Ph.D., led the kickoff ceremony here at the TESDA Women’s Center (TWC), part of the agency’s compound along East Service Road, Bicutan, Taguig City, Metro Manila.

More than 200 competitors coming from the country’s various regions will be facing each other as they compete in 25 different skill areas.

“Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey as we come together to support and celebrate the incredible talents of of our competitors.

“This kickoff event is not just a prelude — it is a celebration of our collective commitment to honing the skills of our Filipino workforce and preparing them for greater challenges ahead,” Mangudadatu, TESDA Director General, notes.

The competitors will be vying for honors in Cybersecurity, Information Network Cabling, IT Network Systems Administration, It Software Solutions for Business, Web Technologies, CNC Maintenance, Electronics, Carpentry, Mechatronics, Welding, Cabinet Making, and Cooking.

They also go against other in Hotel Reception, Plumbing and Heating, Hairdressing, Wall and Floor Tiling Mechanical Engineering Cad, Restaurant Service, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Beauty, Therapy, Electrical Installations, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, and Automobile Technology.

Suharto cited the significance of the national competition, saying it serves as a platform to recognize the exceptional skills of young industry workers and graduates from technical vocational schools and training centers.

“Our mission at TESDA has always been to provide world-class skills and training that empower individuals to achieve their fullest potential,” he emphasizes.

“Through the activities like the 2024 PNSC, we aim to showcase the incredible abilities of our participants, highlighting the vital role of technical skills in nation-building and economic progress,” Suharto adds.

Mangudadatu pointed out that each skill in the competition represents a domain of expertise where the 2024 PNSC participants will showcase the product of their talents, hard work, and dedication.

“It is a testament to the diversity and richness of skills that our nation possesses, and I am confident that this year’s competition will be a spectacular display of Filipino ingenuity and excellence.”

One of the highlights of the kickoff event was the signing of a Ceremonial Commitment Board between TESDA led by Mangudadatu and its partners to formalize their collaboration for the holding of the 2024 PNSC.

TESDA does not lack of partners in its initiatives to scale the skills of Filipino workers, as such its partners for this year’s competition include Goldtown, Hytec Power, Inc. with Yalong, Dolang, Doosan, and Schneider, Hexatronics, FESTO, Middleby Philippines, KNX Training, Astoria Plaza, FELTA, and Equilibrium Intertrade, among others.

At the kickoff event, TESDA present selected competitors and representatives from various regions and previous international skills competition winners.

Mangudadatu said the winners of the 2024 PNSC will get the chance to represent the Philippines in the upcoming 2025 ASEAN Skills Competition which will be held in the country.

ASEAN, which stands for Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is comprised of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

Section 30 of Republic Act 7796, the TESDA Act of 1994, mandates that TESDA, with active participation from private industries, shall organize annual skills Olympics to promote quality skills development in the country and prepare participants for international skills competition.

Mangudadatu extended TESDA’s “deepest gratitude” to its industry partners, as he acknowledged their “invaluable” support in setting up the competition areas and providing the state-of-the-art equipment to be used at the TWC venue.

He described it as “generous contributions” which are critical for creating accurate competition scenarios.

While the TESDA Director General was at it, he also thanked members of the media who joined and covered the kickoff event at the TESDA Women’s Center. (/)
