COTBATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) recently celebrated a significant achievement with the 2024 first semester mass graduation for scholars of the Bangsamoro Scholarship Program for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BSPTVET).

MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Hosted by MBHTE, this event underscored the region’s dedication to advancing educational opportunities. A total of 531 graduates completed rigorous programs in diverse fields, including Bread and Pastry Production National Competency (NC) II, Driving NC II, Plumbing NC II, EPAS NC II, Agricultural Crops Production NC II, Masonry NC II, Cookery NC II, Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II, Carpentry NC II, and Computer Servicing System NC II.

In his keynote address, Bangsamoro Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal inspired the graduates by emphasizing the importance of applying their newly acquired skills to benefit their lives and communities. โ€œYung natutunan po ninyo, kailangan niyong ipraktis kasi alam niyo, knowledge can only be called real knowledge pag napag-aralan mo yan, napraktis, at naituro,โ€ he said.

The BSPTVET program, a cornerstone of MBHTEโ€™s mission, aims to provide accessible technical education to all. This graduation not only celebrates the graduates’ dedication but also marks the beginning of a new journey for them and the continued progress of the Bangsamoro region.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Areaโ€™s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted โ€œYesโ€ in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted โ€œYesโ€.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (โœ“)
