MBHTE Holds Series of Turnover Ceremonies for New School, Covered Court, and Pathways’ Concreting

COTABATO CITY — On August 25, 2024, a turnover ceremony was held for the newly constructed Covered Court, with a stage and bleachers, in Barangay Bugawas, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, worth Php6,284, 643.72 and was funded under the Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) 2021.

This project, which aimed to enhance local infrastructures, was a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) and various community stakeholders. The MBHTE played a crucial role in ensuring the project met educational and community needs, highlighting its commitment to improving facilities for learning and community engagement.

Headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The new Covered Court promises to bring numerous benefits to the local school and learners. It provides a functional space for physical education classes and other school-related activities.

On August 22, the education ministry held a series of turnover ceremonies marking the completion of new infrastructure projects in Maguindanao del Norte School Division.

The first ceremony took place at Aragasi Elementary School (AES) in Brgy. Tuca-maror, Bongo Island, Parang, where the concreting of two school pathways was completed under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 TDIF amounted to Php1,970,000.00.

Another turnover ceremony was held also at AES for the completion of classroom construction under the FY 2022 General Appropriations Act of the Bangsamoro (GAAB) Cluster 1, amounting to Php4,417,815.72.

Minister Iqbal has always emphasized the importance of these developments in providing better learning environments for students across all school divisions, furthering the goal of accessible and quality education for all.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
