PASIG CITY, September 28, 2024 (SDN) — Now, the cat is out of the bag, so to speak.

Cezarah “Ate Sarah” Discaya today, September 28, confirmed what has been a long time talk of the town, whispers, and hush-hush: She is running as mayor in the country’s May 2025 midterm elections of this progressive urban jungle in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Her confirmation of her mayoralty aspiration will pit her directly against the incumbent, two-termer Mayo Vico Sotto, who is expected to run for his third and last term.

Popularly known in Pasig communities as “Ate Sarah” for the humanitarian activities she’s been doing with her husband Kuya Curlee Discaya, actually, did not accidentally let out her plan to contest the mayoralty position.

Reporters and bloggers cornered her and ambushed her for an interview during the medical mission in Barangay San Miguel of the St. Gerrard Construction Charity Foundation, Inc., where she is the chief financial officer (CFO).

When she could no longer escaped the issue amid a bunch of pesky newsmen and bloggers, she relented on her well-kept secret.

“Actually, I’ve been avoiding this question for a long time,” she replies in Tagalog and English, “but since filing (Certificate of Candidacy, COC) is approaching anyway, there are many who are encouraging me or telling me if we should run. Perhaps, this is the right time to say that, ‘yes, we will be running for public office.'”

“Why?” she says.

Answering her own question, she says, “we already have our business, our income is already enough for us.”

But she hastened to add that there’s something missing in her life with Kuya Curlee Discaya, her husband. You see, the couple, in their own words recently revealed they went through hardships and can’t hardly afford any amenities. Meaning, they were poor.

Earlier, Ate Sarah Discaya told reporters as she recalled the time that a brother-in-law of hers died in a hospital because there was no money, they were not able to help in his treatment.

“Yes, what’s missing from us is we want to help others. There were even insinuations if I win with the huge expenses we may incur, that we’ll get it back. But we can’t ask for anything more. We are so blessed.”

She said they have many projects outside Pasig which keep them contented. “Actually, that’s what I’ve been telling you the last time that every time we have medical mission after we have collected, it’s more than what we spend for the medical missions.”

“About that getting back (the money spent for elections), is it not possible to serve without indulging in corruption. Or that’s just the perception instilled in our minds. But it’s not like that. Ours is true service for Pasigueños,” Ate Sarah Discaya emphasizes.

“We have seen so many that is lacking, and we are trying to fill which today we can do through our medical missions.”

It can be recalled that their St. Gerrard Construction Charity Foundation, Inc. has been conducting medical missions in Pasig’s 30 barangays and they want to do it in every barangay.

Their medical mission is being conducted every Saturday and Sunday, and lately even on weekdays in response to strong from many Pasig residents who are not yet served.

Sometimes the Discaya couple has to do it twice in some barangays because of the volume of poor people long wanting to be served with a medical mission, which so far only they are doing it consistently, as in more than twice weekly. (/)
