COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE), in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), held a groundbreaking ceremony last, January 21, at the Office of the Chief Minister (OCM) grounds, Bangsamoro Government Center (BHG), Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Norte, for the construction of 11 new infrastructure projects at Bangsamoro Science High School (BSHS) in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
These new infrastructures funded under the Special Development Fund (SDF) 2022 and 2023 that will be implemented in two phases include a fence and gate, land/site development, girls’ dormitory building phase 1, academic building phase 1, water system development, boys’ dormitory building phase 1, administration building, road network/concrete pavements including street lights, a mosque (masjid), completion of academic building 1, and the installation of power, distribution lines, and communication systems.
With a total amount of Php283,040,500, these new infrastructures aim to provide a more conducive learning environment for the learners.
The MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

More construction projects for Bangsamoro youth’s better education
Meanwhile in Basilan, BARMM, the MBHTE held earlier a series of groundbreaking ceremonies on January 16, 2025, for the construction of various projects in the Province of Basilan.
One of these projects is the construction of a covered court with a stage in Barangay Lahi Lahi, Tuburan, Basilan, funded under the Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) 2024 by Minister of Parliament (MP) Mosber Alauddin.
Additionally, three computer laboratories will be constructed at three schools in Atong-Atong NHS, Port
Holland Zone V, and Sumisip Agre Fisheries High School. A school library will be built at Candiis ES, Hadji Mohammad Ajul, and a school clinic will be constructed at Maluso CES Town Site. These projects are funded under the GAAB 2024 and SDF 2022.

A one-storey, three-classroom school building will also be constructed at Zone 4 Maluso, Basilan, funded by TDIF 2023 through MP Tan Misuari.
These new projects, with a total budget of Php13,074,795.99, aim to provide the necessary infrastructures to deliver quality education for Bangsamoro learners, ensuring that no learner will be left behind.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
