PATIKUL, Sulu — The Bangsamoro Government officially turned over a newly constructed faculty training facility to the Mindanao State University (MSU) – Sulu on April 3, marking a significant investment in education for the Bangsamoro people of this province.
Constructed by the Ministry of Public Works – Sulu 1st District Engineering Office (MPW-Sulu 1st DEO), the modern center boasts a training hall, offices, two comfortable restrooms, and other essential amenities designed to enhance faculty development programs.
The Php10-million facility was funded through the Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) of Member of Parliament (MP) Adzfar Usman.
University officials in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) representatives, and other stakeholders attended the event. It included a ribbon-cutting and tour of the facility. Speakers emphasized the importance of the new center, highlighting its role in upgrading the quality of education at MSU-Sulu.
Headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, the MSU-Sulu is one of the state universities and colleges (SUCs) under the supervision of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHE), which is one of the 15 primary ministries of the BARMM.
MSU-Sulu Chancellor Dr. Nagder J. Abdurahman extended his heartfelt thanks to MP Usman and the Bangsamoro Government, saying: “Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah… We thank you for this laudable project. May Allah bless you more.”
Previously, MSU-Sulu lacked a dedicated space for faculty skill enhancement and training. This new facility is expected to significantly improve training opportunities for faculty, leading to a more robust and effective educational experience for students.
Engr. Ajan S. Ajijul, the District Engineer of MPW-Sulu 1st DEO, concluded the ceremony with his closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of the center to fostering faculty development.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Tawi-Tawi, 11; SGA, eight. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
