COTABATO CITY – In a bid to strengthen healthcare assistance in the Bangsamoro region, the Office of Minister of the Parliament (MP) Abdulbasit R. Benito has earmarked funds for several hospitals, ensuring that indigent patients can access much-needed medical support and treatment without the burden of financial cost.

The initiative forms part of the Bangsamoro Health Outreach Program for Everyone (BHOPE) of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua, which is being implemented through the Ministry of Health (MOH) under the leadership of Minister Kadil “Jojo” Sinolindeing, Jr. Through this program, resources are extended to hospitals that cater to poor families, allowing them to benefit from life-saving healthcare without the heavy financial burden.

An initial amount of ₱1.5 million has been released and allocated to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center (CRMC), the Bangsamoro Doctor’s Hospital BDH) in Cotabato City, and the Deseret Hospital in Kabacan, North Cotabato. These partner institutions will serve as key channels for providing medical services to indigent patients, ensuring timely access to treatment and care.

The turnover ceremony was formally led by MP’s Chief of Staff, Yusoph Lumambas, on behalf of the Office of MP Benito. This initial release marks the first phase of the total ₱3.5 million allocation, with an additional ₱2 million turnover to follow after the October 13 regional elections. The phased approach seeks to ensure continuity and stability in delivering healthcare support across partner hospitals.

BHOPE, BARMM Gov’t’s institutional commitment

In his message, Benito conveyed his gratitude to Macacua for granting him the opportunity to facilitate medical assistance for indigent patients. He further underscored the personal significance of this initiative, recalling his own experience as a former beneficiary of similar programs.

“I know how it feels to be in their place. I was once a beneficiary myself, and I carry that experience with me in public service. This is why extending medical aid to our less fortunate brothers and sisters is very close to my heart,” Benito stated.

The initiative underscores both the institutional commitment of the Bangsamoro Government and the personal empathy of the MP in addressing the pressing healthcare needs of marginalized communities. By directing funds to critical healthcare facilities, the program aspires to alleviate the financial strain of poor families while ensuring equitable access to medical treatment.

Community members have welcomed the measure, recognizing it as a reflection of both government responsiveness and the BARMM solon’s dedication to public service. With these hospital partnerships in place, the program is expected to benefit a significant number of patients across Cotabato City and North Cotabato, thereby reinforcing the principles of care, compassion, and inclusive governance at the core of the BHOPE program.
