𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐇, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia —Saudi Arabia’s Islamic University of Madinah (IUM) has bestowed a 2026 Alumni Award (5th Edition) on Bangsamoro Parliament Speaker Dr. Mohammad S. Yacob.
The prestigious recognition under the patronage of Prince Salman binSultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and given during IUM’s 62nd Graduation Ceremony on Monday, April 27 (10 Dhul-Qa’dah 1447) cited his outstanding achievements in the academic and professional field. He was one of the recipients of the distinguished award.
Among the many graduates of this year’s batch are Filipinos who studied at the Islamic university in the City of the Prophet Mohammad (SAW) on scholarships provided through the Saudi generosity of Saudi Arabia’s Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
Speaker Yacob expressed his sincere gratitude for the recognition, saying it humbled him, as he described “the award as both an honor and a responsibility that he will carry with humility.”
As thanked the university for the recognition, the Speaker of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) showered his great appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the IUM’s officials, as well as His Excellency Saudi Ambassador to the Philippines Faisal Ebraheem Al-Ghamdi “for their continued support for education and knowledge, emphasizing the important role of learning in building communities and promoting peace.”
Various Royal Decrees establish Madinah’s Islamic university
The Speaker also congratulated this year’s graduates for reaching a significant milestone in their lives and encouraged them to use their knowledge in the service of humanity and the Islamic الأمة (nation). He emphasized the importance of upholding the values of knowledge, peace, and public service, while praying for the continued success and guidance of the graduates in their future endeavours.
It can be recalled the Saudi government established IUM through Royal Decree No. 11 on the 25th of Rabi’ al-Awwal 1381 AH, and then followed by Royal Decree No. 21 on the 16th of Rabi’ al-Thani in the same Islamic Hijri year as it approved the system of the Supreme Advisory Council of the University. The IUM started accepting students on the 2nd of Jumada al-Akhira, also the same year.
“Dated 18/5/1386 AH, Royal Decree No. M/18 was issued, approving the system of the University. A new system for the University was later issued in accordance with Royal Decree No. M/70, dated 7/8/1395 AH,” according to its website: https://iu.edu.sa/en-us.
IUM’s online portal says further that it hosts many students from more than 180 countries which among them speak over 50 global languages; the IUM through the Kingdom’s generosity “offers scholarships that include bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs for both resident and international students.”
The univesity’s location is only around 10 kms. from the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjidil an-Nabawi), at the banks of Wadi- al-Aqeeq in Madinah City’s western part. — EDD K. USMAN (/)
