COTABATO CITY — Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara visited on June 8 the Notre Dame Village Central Elementary School (NDVCES) in Cotabato City and Camp Siongco National High School (CSNHS) in Maguindanao del Norte to engage with teachers and school personnel and discuss key issues affecting schools in BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao).
One of the concerns raised by school personnel was the shortage of classrooms. Secretary Angara assured them that the matter had already been endorsed to DepEd Central Office, which has committed to supporting the construction of additional school buildings across BARMM to address the growing needs of learners.
As part of the activity, the DepEd Central Office also turned over digital learning resources under the Teacher Effectiveness and Competencies Enhancement Program (TEACEP). Laptops were distributed to teachers to support instructional delivery, while 5,534 tablets were provided to learners to enhance access to digital learning resources and strengthen foundational learning skills.
Secretary Angara likewise emphasized the importance of learner mental health and support services, highlighting the need to create safe, inclusive, and learner-centered learning environments.
The activity underscored the continued commitment of DepEd Central Office and the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) in strengthening school support systems, and expanding access to quality education across the Bangsamoro region.
Together with the Secretary were DepEd Assistant Secretaries Roger Masapol and Janir Datukan, Bangsamoro Parliament Speaker Mohammad S. Yacob, Member of Parliament Rasul Esmael, Bangsamoro Attorney General and BARMM Education Acting Deputy Minister Atty. Bantuas M.
