FAIRMONT HOTEL, MAKATI CITY, June 29, 2026 (SDN) — Science, Innovation and Technology (STI) provided the highlights here today, Monday, during a festive 16th Anniversary Celebration of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD).
Headed presently by Deputy Executive Director and Eng’r Niñaliza H. Escorial, Officer-in-Charge, Office of the Executive Director, PCIEERD is the Innovation Council of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and one of its three sectoral planning councils.
In her Welcome Message titled Building Tomorrow, Today, Escorial noted the DOST agency’s science-driven journey through the years, saying the gathering celebrates not only just another year, “but to honor a journey we have traveled together — a journey shaped by trust, by unity, and by a heartfelt commitment to advancing science, technology, and innovation for the country we love.”
She notes where the journey has led, a meaningful realization, empahasizing that the Filipino nation “is not merely adopting emerging technologies; we are helping shape, build, and advance them. To each and every one of you who has been part of this remarkable journey, maraming salamat (thank you very much).”
DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. provided the Keynote Message, describing PCIEERD’s 16 years milestone as marking a shift to a new life.
“It is often described as a coming-of-age year, a transition from formative years to adulthood. It is a stage where you are undergoing a metamorphosis where greater purpose and responsibility await,” the Philippines science chief emphasizes.
PCIEERD, he added, falls in a similar realization as it enters its second salvo of a journey to being the nexus of innovation.
“For sixteen years, the Council has spearheaded (R&D) in industry, energy, and emerging technologies. It has materialized ideas, empowered researchers, strengthened partnerships, and pioneered innovations that address immediate cchallenges,” Solidum says as he paid tribute to PCIEERD’s journey.
“As DOST-PCIEERD enters a new chapter, we trust that it remains committed to bridging science, technology, and innovation with the needs of the society.”
As part of its celebratory tradition, PCIEERD honored 25 of its partners in advancing STI in the country to leverage research and development (R&D) to help improve the lives of Filipinos through myriads of R&D projects turned into viable implementable commercial undertakings.
Every year on its anniversary, PCIEERD comes out with its Kabalikat Awards and EPIC Awards bestowed to its “valued partners” from government, DOST regional offices, private sector/industry, researchers, academic institutions, media, and technology business institutes (TBIs)/startups.
The Kabalikat Awards is the “highest expression of gratitude” of PCIEERD given “to its valued partners and collaborators whose unwavering support and shared commitment to (STI) have played a vital role in advancing the Council’s (R&D) mission.”
This year’s celebration theme revolves around Emerging Technologies for a Future-Ready Philippines: Driving Innovation, Enabling Progress, Transforming the Nation.
