MARIKINA CITY — In a bid to further enhance campus safety in the city, Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro on Monday, June 29, announced that the local government unit (LGU) will increase police and Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS) personnel deployment and will provide metal detectors in public and private schools.
She announced the enhanced security measures following recent violent incidents involving learners on school campuses in various parts of the country.
Recently, Mayor Maan personally inspected security arrangements at several of the city’s large public schools to identify additional measures to further enhance campus safety.
“Nitong mga nakaraang araw, personal tayong naglibot sa ilan sa ating malalaking pampublikong paaralan para tingnan ang mga security measures at alamin pa kung ano ang maaari nating idagdag para mas maging ligtas ang ating mga estudyante,” she said.
She noted that security personnel had already been assigned to schools even before reports of incidents in other parts of the country emerged, but stressed that the city government wants to further strengthen its safety measures to reassure parents.
“Bago pa man ang mga balitang lumabas tungkol sa mga insidente sa ibang bahagi ng bansa, may nakatalaga na tayong mga pulis at OPSS sa ating mga paaralan. Pero gusto nating mas palakasin pa ito para mas panatag ang loob ng ating mga magulang,” Mayor Maan said.
(Even before news about violent incidents in other parts of the country, we already deployed policemen and OPSS personnel in our schools. But we want to make it stronger still for the parents’ peace of mind.)
Also, Mayor Maan welcomed 70 newly hired OPSS personnel who will help strengthen public safety efforts across the city.
“Nakasama rin natin ngayong umaga ang 70 nating bagong OPSS personnel. Welcome sa inyong lahat, at maraming salamat sa pagpili ninyong maglingkod sa ating lungsod,” she said.

In addition, roving police will also be deployed in private schools in coordination with the Marikina Private Schools Association, Inc. (MPSAI).
The mayor said the additional measures are intended to further improve school security and provide greater peace of mind for students, parents, teachers, and school communities.
“It is our duty and responsibility to ensure learners not only receive good education, but are, most importantly, safe in the confines of their schools. We have 17 elementary public schools and 16 public high schools in the city, with several more private institutions in the city. These places should be safe havens for children, and we will do our part in the city government so students and other school faculty remain unharmed,” said the mayor. (/)
