Son Pays Glowing Tribute to His Father
THE REMARKABLE LIFE OF MY FATHER: Seventy Five Years As A True Bangsamoro Leader
By Dr. Dimapuno “Jun” Alonto Datu-Ramos, Jr.
MANILA, June 12, 2020 — TODAY marks the 122 years of Philippine independence from foreign rule. It is a day of freedom that we commemorate as Filipinos every year, and we remember the leaders of past who gave their lives for the country.
My father, Sultan sa Raya and former Vice Governor of Lanao del Sur, Atty. Dimapuno “Pangnal” Datu Ramos Sr., is a hero and role model to our family and community. Even during his early years in school, his diligence and dedication to attaining the best education was admired by those around him. Graduating with high honors as Valedictorian, then as Cum Laude, while being a Dalupan Law Scholar, made him a Maranao worthy of praise and admiration.
Isa yan sa nagtulak sa akin para maging duktor, ang pagpapahalaga ni Atty. Pangnal sa edukasyon. Ito lang daw ang kayamanang hindi kayang agawin ng kahit na sino.
(Translation: That’s one of the factors that inspired me to become a doctor, Attorney Pangnal’s giving importance to education. He said it’s the only wealth that cannot be taken away.)
His years serving both as a Sultan and as a public official was never tainted with questionable issues, and he is always telling us that our family name should be protected from accusations of injustice or corruption. He was, and still is, the voice of his people and a purveyor of the Truth, never to be silenced by fear, aggression, or the lure of money. A writer and an orator whose mind is a beautiful garden of ideas and wisdom.
My father gave me his name, and I will forever be proud of whatever he had achieved in his 75 years of existence because our name is that of integrity, hard work, and justice. He has fought for the Bangsamoro in more ways than one, and his name “Pangnal” will be remembered for many years by generations of Maranaos.
This year marks his first natal day after 5 decades of marriage that my mother is not by his side. But Dad, know that Mommy will always be your number one supporter, and we as your children are always here for you and your endeavors.
Ang ika-12 ng Hunyo ay ipinagdiriwang bilang Independence Day ng mga Filipino. Iba ang aming dahilan ng kasiyahan.
(Translation: The 12th of June is celebrated by Filipinos as Independence Day. We have different reason for our happiness.)
We, in our family, have our father’s existence to be thankful for, and as another year is added to his honorable life, we thank Allah swt for constantly blessing us and our family’s pride, Atty. Pangnal.
Eid Milad Dad! (DADR)
