(SDN) — LAWYER Saidamen B. Pangarungan will serve at the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) as head for the second time. As secretary and CEO.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte has re-appointed the former governor of Lanao del Sur, one of the provinces that comprise the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
His new appointment, according to Dr. Dimapuno A. Datu-Ramos, Jr., spokesman and media head of the NCMF, the new appointment is from July 11, 2020 to March 10, 2022.
The President appointed him for the first time effective July 11, 2018, Datu-Ramos, director of the NCMF’s Bureau of External Relations (BER), recalled.
Republic Act 9997, the NCMF Charter, allows for the re-appointment of the incumbent secretary of the Commission for another two years. (Note that the secretary must first be appointed as commissioner for four years before being eligible for appointment as secretary.)
The President signed the new appointment last month, but Malacañang released it only on Thursday, August 27.
A religious organization welcomed the President’s action.
The United Ulama and Sheikh Association of the Philippines thanked the President.
In a statement, members of the group noted that Pangarungan’s “leadership at the NCMF has been widely known for providing (for) the socio-economic wellbeing of the Muslim Filipinos nationwide, like his successful response program to more than 100,000 needy Muslim Filipinos during the Covid-19 crisis.”
Datu-Ramos said Pangarungan’s plans going forward would be known during the “kanduri” (thanksgiving) celebration at the NCMF onThursday, September 3.
The BER director congratulated the secretary “for being re-appointed by (the President). Indeed, you have earned the trust and confidence of the President for excellent performance as head of the NCMF.”
Pangarungan’s appointment as NCMF commissioner is from 2018 to 2022.
Other Moro leaders vied for the post. Pangarungan got the appointment.
The NCMF’s creation abolished and replaced the defunct Office on Muslim Affairs (OMA). (SDN) (✓)
