OBVIOUSLY, Huawei Technologies Philippines, Inc. is constant in exercising its commitment of giving back to its host country. In this instance, the Philippines.
Founded in 1987 by People’s Liberation Army (PLA) officer engineer Ren Zhengfei, the Chinese company, the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world, has just announced its scholarship program for the University of the Philippines (UP).
Huawei launched the educational initiative for Filipino students through a virtual ceremony.
In a message reaching SDN — Science & Digital News, the technology and smartphone firm said applications are now being accepted for the scholarship from third to fifth year UP College of Engineering students.
Huawei has earmarked Php73,000 for annual stipend and book allowance for each scholar awardees who will make the cut through a screening process to determine qualifiers.
Among those present during the online launch included engineer Ferdinand Dela Cruz, president of UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, engineer Tito Aliga and Prof. Juvy Balbarona representing UP College of Engineering.

Dela Cruz welcomed the scholarship program, lauding Huawei for the initiative.
“Huawei is definitely an inspiration for UP and UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation and we are very happy that Huawei is doing this scholarship program,” he pointed out.
Huawei Philippines Human Resource Director Jade Cao emphasized the importance the company places on education, not just in the Philippines but in other parts of globe.
“As a company, Huawei values education and it is one of the pillars of our Tech4All Program and inspires us to launch our scholarship program not only in the Philippines but in other parts of the world. We appreciate the partnership with UP And we look forward to more collaboration in the future,” said Cao.
It can be recalled that as part of its programs on education, Huawei has partnered with various state universities in the Philippines for its Huawei ICT Academy.
Graduates of the “academy” which is also being implemented in other parts of the world may earned the opportunity through a competition to go and visit Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China, for a free educational study tour.
