(SDN)The humanitarian and rescue arm of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) has responded to emergency situations in two areas of the Bangsamoro region.

First, is because of natural calamity — flood and destruction of crops — in Midsayap Cluster located in North Cotabato but part of the territory of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through a plebiscite in 2019.

BARMM has 63 barangays or villages in Midsayap, Pigcawayan, and Pikit, all municipalities geographically covered by North Cotabato but under BARMM jurisdiction.

Second, is a man-made calamity in the Municipality of General Salipada K. Pendatun in Maguindanao province because of two armed groups fighting in the community.

On May 16, 2022, MILG’s Bangsamoro READi (Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence) visited and delivered to three barangays in the Midsayap Cluster — Kadingilan, Ulandang, and Nabalawag — the assistance to over 2,000 residents affected by floods that destroyed their livelihood crops.

On May 14, in General Salipada K. Pendatun, Bangsamoro READi handed over food packs and groceries to more than 600 internally displaced persons (IDPs), residents forced to flee their homes to escape the fighting.

As this developed, authorities were trying to settle the conflict establish peace and security and the IDPs able to return to their homes.
