COTABATO CITY — As is the norm with the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) under the leadership of Minister Naguib G. Sinarimbo, the MILG is busy as ever, with full schedules on working days. Even on weekends if need be.

Over the week, the MILG head, also the spokesman of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), accompanied an official of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Head of Stabilization Program Srinivas Kumar and others in a tour of the Pigkawayan Cluster of the BARMM’s Special Geographic Area (SGA). The SGA is an enclave made up of 63 barangays or villages geographically located in North Cotabato, but a part of the Bangsamoro region.

Here’s Sinarimbo’s narration of the tour with UNDP’s Kumar:

“I accompanied our development partner, the United Nations Development Programme Head of Stabilization Program Mr.Srinivas Kumar and other colleagues in the Pigkawayan Cluster of the Special Geographic Area to check on our ongoing projects such as barangay government centers, community activity centers, and the Agricultural Equipment Pool (AEP), which is managed by the Cluster Alliance to improve agricultural productivity while at the same time allowing these BLGUs (Bangsamoro local government units) to exercise their corporate powers by engaging in economic activities to support their constituents.
Listening to what the grassroots have to say.
“We also visited the Libungan Marsh in Barangay Datu Mantil where we will engage in fishery production and processing to increase production and extend the shelf life of fishery products so fisherfolks can demand for better and fair price for their products. These facilities will be run by a cooperative of the ‘Widows of War’ or the widows of the combatants of the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front)  who were killed in the course of the revolution.
“UNDP committed to fund some of the components of this Integrated Area Development (IAD) project.
The Agricultural Equipment Pool will be replicated in the other Clusters of the SGA. For this year, we will implement the same in the Midsayap Cluster.
“As we embark on the recovery and rehabilitation of these conflict devastated areas, we are also strengthening its governance structure so that these projects will become more sustainable.”

MILG turns over check for subsidy to Non-IRA Barangays

Interior Minister Naguib G. Sinarimbo turns over check representing subsidy for BARMM Non-IRA Barangays.

In another activity earlier, Sinarimbo said the MILG has released the monthly subsidy of the Bangsamoro region’s barangays which have no internal revenue allotment (IRA), or the Non-IRA Barangays.
The subsidy for Non IRA Barangays in the region started this year as part of the annual appropriations of the region sourced from its Block Grant.
“We thank the Bangsamoro Chief Minister Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim for providing this assistance to barangays which are not receiving their share from the internal revenue or now taxes of the national government,” the MILG head said. — SDN/MILG (/)
