(SDN) — In the Philippines rainwater comes in deluge, and the country, being an archipelago, is surrounded by bodies of water.
But still, potable water is scarce, especially in the island provinces of the Bangsamoro region; thus, the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) has been responding to this vital need of water-starved residents.
Under the leadership of Minister Naguib G. Sinarimbo, the MILG has been installing Water Desalination Machine Facilities in Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Basilan, the three island component provinces of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Sinarimbo had described as “eons ago” the absence of potable water facilities on some of the island municipalities of the island provinces.
Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao are the two landlocked provinces of the Bangsamoro region. The BARMM also has three cities, Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, and 63 barangays or villages classified as the Special Geographic Area (SGA) in North Cotabato, but under the Bangsamoro government’s jurisdiction.
Water System Facilities are also needed in the SGA villages, with the MILG responding with building a Water System project in Barangay Lower Baguer, Pigkawayan Cluster of the SGA.
Another Water System project being established also in the SGA’s Pigkawayan Cluster is in Barangay Balacayon.
“We we continue to deploy Desalination Machines on the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, we are also constructing water systems for waterless communities in the mainland provinces of Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao and in the SGA communities of the BARMM,” Sinarimbo points out.
The MILG minister, also the spokesman of the BARMM, thanked BARMM Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim “for his continuing support to the Ministry in the pursuit of its programs to the address many of the key challenges confronting the Bangsamoro earlier identified when we did the Rapid Assessment of the State of Governance in the BARMM with Galing Pook Foundation, Inc.” (✓)
