COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) on Friday, December 1, turned over a completed 2-storey with 10-classroom school building project to the Municipality of Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao del Sur, amounting to Php20,636,243.95.
Constructed for the learners of Datu Anggal Midtimbag Memorial National High School (DAMMNHS), the building can accommodate a maximum of 650 students. It was constructed under the Special Development Fund (SDF) 2020.
Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, education chief of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), has always emphasized that the construction of these school buildings in the region epitomizes the ministry’s dedication to providing the best and safest learning facilities for the students while effectively utilizing public funds.
The provision of school building projects was in line with the 12-point priority agendas of the MBHTE towards promoting accessibility of quality education.
Additionally, it was the result of the continuous monitoring and evaluation activities of the EFS which aimed to identify infrastructure needs and ensure better educational experience of learners at all levels.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
