COTABATO CITY — News school buildings to add more classrooms, hiring of new teachers, along with armchairs are vital to learners’ education. Also included are sports equipment for a well-rounded development of learners.
For these physical manifestations of quality education provide an environment conducive to learning.
Apparently, this is in the mind of the leadership of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), particularly its Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) headed by newly re-appointed Education Minister Mohager M. Iqbal.
Since he assumed the lead of education portfolio in the Bangsamoro government, Iqbal has made it his mission to put in place reforms to raise the quality of Bangsamoro learners’ education.
Constructing new school buildings, hiring of teaching and non-teaching personnel, provisions for school supplies including IT equipment and devices, among others have been Iqbal’s initiatives. And that include provisions of MBHTE-designed armchairs as well.
In fact, earlier this month of Yuletide Season, the MBHTE distributed, through its Property and Supply Section, school supplies and sports equipment in the schools division of Maguindanao del Norte.
The supplies and equipment include:
a. 33,361 copies of learners’ materials
b. 1475 gallons of alcohol
c. 145 tubes of shuttle cock
d. 328 pairs of badminton rackets
e. 145 pcs. of baseball bat
f. 47 sets of baseball gloves
g. 47 dozens of baseballs
h. 140 pcs. of basketballs
i. 94 pairs of boxing gloves
j. 94 pairs of hand wrap
k. 94 sets of chessboard
l. 94 pcs. of chess timer
m. 140 pcs. of footballs
n. 94 pcs. of futsal balls
o. 94 pcs. of sepak takraw balls
p. 94 pcs. of softball bats
q. 187 pcs. of softballs
r. 187 pcs. of volleyballs
s. 47 sets of bocce balls
The recipient schools are the following:

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
