COTABATO CITY — The 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division (6ID) headed by Major General Antonio G. Nafarrete, accompanied by his comrades, paid a courtesy visit on September 9, to Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal.
Iqbal is the head of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
It can be noted that Maj. Gen. Nafarrete was installed in a Change of Command last July 23, 2024, at Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.
Maj. Gen. Nafarrete emphasized the militaryโs commitment to supporting education initiatives and promoting peace and stability within BARMM. He reiterated the importance of a collaborative approach in fostering the development of the regionโs educational sector.

Meanwhile, Minister Iqbal expressed his gratitude to the 6ID for their continued support and dedication to the welfare of Bangsamoro communities. He believed that the militaryโs role in ensuring peaceful and secure environments conducive to education and development is crucial yet significant.
Their meeting marked a positive step toward further strengthening the partnership between the military and the MBHTE, reinforcing their shared goals of advancing education, peace, and sustainable development in the region.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted โYesโ in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (โ)
