Through BALS, MBHTE Provides Assistance to ALS Teachers in Tawi-Tawi, Lanao de Sur, Marawi City; Visits Community Learning Center Areas

COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), through the Bureau for Alternative Learning System (BALS) under the office of the Directorate General for Basic Education (DGBE), provided a Technical Assistance for Alternative Learning System (ALS) teachers in the schools division offices of Tawi-Tawi, Lanao del Sur I, Lanao del Sur II, and Marawi City last November 4-7, 2024.

The BALS team also visited community learning centers (CLCs) to assess teaching methods and understand the challenges ALS educators faced.

Focus group discussions with teachers were also conducted to evaluate the impact of post training workshops and identify future professional development needs.

The information gathered will guide the development of future policies and training programs to better assist ALS teachers and improve program implementation, making sure that they are provided with the right assistance to deliver quality education.

Meanwhile, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (BARMM) education ministry has announced the re-scheduling of the mid-year break from November 25-29, 2024, to December 9-14 for Island Divisions and December 15-20 for Mainland Divisions, inclusive of travel time.

The MBHTE headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal made clear the “mid-year break shall be used for the Division Mass Training of Teachers on Matatag Curriculum Implementation using the Bangsamoro Basic Education Curriculum Contextualization Framework for Kindergarten, Grades 1, 4, and 7.

Grade levels that are not mentioned shall have their school In-Service Training led by their School Heads and Master Teachers.

The MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro government.

Established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), the Bangsamoro region, is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
