Bangsamoro Gov’t Officials Share Best Practices during 2nd BARMM Education Summit

COTABATO CITY (SDN) — On November 28-29, 2024, the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal conducted the Bangsamoro region’s 2nd BARMM Education Summit.

BARMM is the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM); the MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the BARMM.

The summit revolved around “One MBHTE: Advancing Access, Equity and Excellence on All Bangsamoro Modalities”.

Various education officials shared their shared their Best Practices and Inspiring Stories in Basic Education Governance, among them Schools Division Superintendents Dr. Anna Zenaida Unte-Alonto of Marawi City, Dr. Concepcion F. Balawag, Ph.D., CESO V of Cotabato City, and Myra B. Mangkabong, CESE, of Lamitan City.

Their stories shared the importance of collaboration, innovative solutions, and community engagement in improving educational outcomes, demonstrating their dedication on fulfilling its mission of leaving no Bangsamoro learner behind.

These education leaders exemplify how dedication to students and educators can foster a more inclusive and responsive learning environment, ultimately contributing to the holistic development of future generations, inspiring many to thrive for a better education in the BARMM region.

Atty. Raissa H. Jajurie, Member of the Parliament and Minister of of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) presented how the MSSD helps in here presentation on 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥.

Discussing the 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨: 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 were the Directors General for Basic, Higher, Technical, and Madaris Education, Abdullah P. Salik, Jr., Marjuni M. Maddi, Ruby A. Andong, and Prof. Tahir G. Nalg, respectively.

Atty. Sittie Mariam I. Balahim, MBHTE Assistant Regional Secretary, presented the 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 C𝐨𝐝𝐞.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur.  (✓)
