COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), through its Directorate General for Madaris Education (DGME), commenced the first leg of the contract renewal and orientation for 5,959 Islamic Studies and Arabic Language (ISAL) Teachers-Asaatidz across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on July 10 in Cotabato City.
Covered in the first day’s activity included ISAL Teachers-Asaatidz from the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Cotabato City and the Special Geographic Area (SGA) in the morning, followed by participants from the SDO of Maguindanao del Norte in the afternoon.
Their renewed contracts will cover the period from July to December 2026.
The initiative reflects the commitment of Interim Chief Minister and Concurrent MBHTE Minister Abdulraof A. Macacua, together with Bangsamoro Attorney General and Concurrent Acting Deputy Minister of MBHTE Atty. Bantuas M. Lucman, to further strengthen Madaris education by ensuring that ISAL Teachers-Asaatidz receive the guidance, support, and professional development necessary to effectively carry out their role as educators.
It also reinforces their vital contribution to advancing the vision of a “Mas Matatag na Bangsamoro”, where quality, inclusive, and values-based education nurtures learners who are grounded in Islamic values and equipped to contribute to the region’s development.
The succeeding schedules for the contract renewal and orientation will continue on July 11 for the SDOs of Lanao del Sur II and Marawi City, to be held at the SDO of Cotabato City Covered Court.
On the same day, the SDO of Maguindanao del Sur will conduct its contract renewal and orientation at the DGME Office. This will be followed by the SDO of Lanao del Sur I on July 12, at the SDO of Cotabato City Covered Court. See less
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, and the Special Geographic Area (SGA) with right municipalities.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
