401 TVET Scholars Now Part of Bangsamoro Scholarship Program under BARMM’s MBHTE

COTABATO CITY — The TESD Lanao del Sur Provincial Office successfully conducted a Capability Building Program on Institutional Assessment Tools (IATs) Development from April 7–11, 2025, at Diamond Function Hall, Barangay Amito, Marantao, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

Selected TVET trainers from various Tech-Voc Institutions (TVIs) in the province participated in the training, aimed at strengthening their skills in creating, evaluating, and implementing Institutional Assessment Tools in line with MBHTE-TESD BARMM standards.

MBHTE is the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal.

TVET is technical-vocational education and training; TESD is technical education and skills development; BARMM is the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Key topics included:

– Overview of the Competency Assessment and Certification System
– Guidelines for Developing Assessment Tools
– Hands-on Workshop on IAT Creation
– Presentation and Critiquing of Participants’ Outputs

The training was led by MBHTE-TESD Lanao del Sur experts, along with TESD-certified trainers with extensive experience in assessment development.

The City Schools Division of Marawi headed by SDS Anna Zenaida Unte is one of the recipients of 1,000 school armchairs from MBHTE, benefiting 10 schools with 100 chairs each.

School officials sent their heartfelt gratitude to the Regional Supply Office and the Office of the Minister for their continuous support in enhancing learning environments for Bangsamoro learners.

In a related development, a total of 401 TVET scholars officially joined the 2025 Bangsamoro Scholarship Program last March 16-20, 2025. The scholars will be trained in various National Certificate (NC) II programs, including Agricultural Crops Production, Bread and Pastry Production, Carpentry, Cookery, and Welding, among others.

The TESD Sulu continues to address the needs of communities through its scholarship programs. Registered TVIs are collaborating with the Provincial Office to implement the Training Induction Program (TIP), ensuring scholars are fully equipped with knowledge and skills they need.

Established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), the Bangsamoro region is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Tawi-Tawi, 11; and SGA, 8. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
