MANDALUYONG CITY — It’s the time of year when a little generosity and kind heart can help a lot. More than a lot, in fact.

And that’s what’s in the mind and heart, apparently, of the city’s local chief executive, Mayor Menchie Abalos, especially that, precisely, it’s the season of year when generosity and kindness and humanity all rolled into giving — meaning it’s Christmas time.

It’s the period of the year everyone’s waiting for in great anticipation.

And everyone and everybody feels and practices the art of giving as many people are into receiving.

On Sunday, December 14, the lady mayor led the city government’s traditional annual “Pamaskong Handog” (Christmas Gifts) simultaneous distribution of 275,000 Noche Buena packs and Go Bags for every family.

She began the distribution of the Noche Buena packs and Go Bags in Barangay Hagdan Bato Itaas as the signal for the simultaneous distribution in different barangays (villages), together with Vice Mayor Anthony Suva, Congresswoman Queenie Gonzales, and members of the City Council.

Each Noche Buena pack contained grocery items, while each Go Bag included a First Aid Kit and several medicines that can be used in an emergency situation.

The city government’s Pamaskong Handog tradition was started by former Mayor Benjamin Abalos in 1987, with the goal of giving added joy to Mandaleño families during the Christmas season.

“Ayuda” style — meaning delivered door-two-door — was used in carrying out the distribution to each household, which was practiced during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and has since been continued because of its orderly and effective implementation. (/)
