MILG Provides Firetruck for Datu Piang, Conducts Peace Summit

(SDN) — The Municipality of Datu Piang in Maguindanao province has a brand new firetruck equipped with all the accessories for firefighting.

Under the leadership of Mayor Datu Victor Samama, the local government unit (LGU) now has the weapon to improve its capacity in responding to fire incidents, including Datu Piang’s neighboring areas.

Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG) Minister Naguib G. Sinarimbo announced this over the week, noting the municipality was hit by a fire.

“To recall, the public market of Datu Piang was gutted by fire last year. We provided assistance to the victims also. Beyond that, I also committed to provide them a firetruck. Today, we are fulfilling that commitment. What we say, we do,” said Sinarimbo.

Samama thanked the Milg and welcomed the donation from the MILG, saying it will go a long way in helping the municipality exercise its responsibility to the people.

The MILG is one of the line agencies of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). BARMM covers the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi and the cities of Lamitan, Marawi, and Cotabato, as well as 63 clustered barangays in the province of North Cotabato which voted in a referendum to join the Bangsamoro autonomy.

“Today, we also kickstarted the pre-summit activities of the Bangsamoro Peace and Security Summit. This plan has been approved by the Cabinet of the Bangsamoro last two weeks ago during our presentation. The summit aims to decisively address the long running conflict in the SPMS Box and other conflict-affected areas in Maguindanao and transition quickly into rehabilitation and development. Our ministry has been tasked to lead the Governance Sector while other ministries will look at Development, Security, Humanitarian response, Indigenous peoples’ concerns, human rights and others,” he added.

Sinarimbo said the concrete steps, action plan, commitment, and implementation and monitoring scheme will be surfaced from the series of pre-summit activities conducted over the week.

As this developed, the MILG is conducting presently a workshop involving all the barangay chairpersons, military commanders, and police officers of the SPMS Box and the conflict-affected areas as the regional government solicits their commitment to fight violent extremism and to never allow any (extremist) group to seek sanctuary in their barangays (villages).

He emphasized the workshop is part of the series of pre-summit activities that “we are doing leading up to the Bangsamoro Peace and Security Summit (BPSS) to decisively address the ongoing conflict in this area and transition quickly into rehabilitation and development.”

Meanwhile, in Lanao del Sur, Sinarimbo said an MILG team is currently installing the VSat for internet connection in Butig municipality, allowing internet connectivity to operationalize the LeAPS Program of the Ministry aimed at transitioning lgus into digital service delivery. (/)
