DAVAO CITY – In preparation for the class opening for the school year 2022-2023, the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) has gathered the division Madrasah coordinators, private Madaris, and the stakeholders in the BARMM to develop the guidelines for Madrasah class opening and learning recovery plan. These guidelines are intended to provide Madaris with the direction in re-opening classes.
(Madaris is plural of madrasah which translates to Islamic school. BARMM is Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. MBHTE is one of the primary Bangsamoro government ministries.)
MBHTE Director General for Madaris Education Prof. Tahir Nalg addressed the participants of the two-day workshop, highlighting the importance of forming a task force for the Madrasah class opening in the region. “The class opening is the most anticipated highlight for this year,” said Prof. Nalg.

“It is important that we ensure our schools, especially the madrasah, including the teachers and students, and the entire education community are ready to welcome our learners back to school,” he added.
One of the objectives of this workshop held over the week is to determine strategies and timelines for integrating the learning recovery plan into the Madrasah Comprehensive Plan (MCP).
The MBHTE recently released the Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2022-2023 (Memorandum Order 792, Series of 2022), which applies to all public and private elementary and secondary schools, including the Community Learning Centers (CLCs) and Madaris. As a reference document, the MBHTE Madrasah directorate ensures the effective implementation of integrated quality education which was discussed during the workshop.

“A safe, healthy, and peaceful return to school”
To support the guidelines on implementing safe return to school in the region, the communications plan on the face-to-face (F2F) learning modality and reopening of schools developed by various BARMM ministries and offices were presented to the participants of this workshop. This will help bring the #OneMBHTE approach to communicating regional guidelines on education to the public.
With support from the Australian Government through the Education Pathways to Peace in Mindanao (Pathways), this activity aims to prepare Madaris in the BARMM to operate in the upcoming school year.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to our Madrasah coordinators, representatives from private Madaris, and our community partners in the BARMM for all your help and assistance to the DGME (Directorate General for Madaris Education) region. I hope that as we address the learning loss among learners in the region, we continue to work for a safe, healthy, and peaceful return to school,” said Prof. Nalg. (✓)
