QUEZON CITY โ€“ Four local government units of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have been recognized for their outstanding performance in the 2023 Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Award.

The Bangsamoro government noted what it described a laudable display of commitment to eradicating illegal drug activities. They received their awards on November 22, 2023, at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Ortigas Avenue, Quezon City.

The recipients, Kapatagan of Lanao del Sur, Kabuntalan and Upi of Maguindanao del Norte, and Paglat of Maguindanao del Sur, demonstrated exceptional commitment to the cause of anti-drug campaigns.

Each LGU was awarded a prestigious plaque marker and a substantial incentive of โ‚ฑ100,000.

This honor not only underlines the critical role that these local governments play in ensuring a drug-free environment, but it also stands as a tribute to the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Ministry of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG/MILG) efforts in implementing effective anti-drug measures across the country.

The ADAC Performance Audit, a national program implemented across the country, aims to assess the functionality and effectiveness of local ADACs based on existing issuances and policies; identify ADAC-initiated and/or endorsed innovations and best practices at all levels; develop an evaluation and assessment platform; and recognize effective and performing ADACs.

The hard work and accomplishments of these LGUs in the anti-drug campaign indicate their commitment to a safer and drug-free society, setting a precedent for others to follow.

Interior Minister Atty. Naguib G. Sinarimbo underlined the importance of ADACs at the local level in the country’s unified fight against illegal substances.

“ADAC supports us at the local level to suppress illegal drugs in their community. It is only fitting that through this audit we can help them improve their role, and we can recognize their efforts for programs against illegal drugs,” he went on to say.

The Ministry was represented at the ceremony by Public Safety Division Chief Maichael I. Laguilay, Provincial Directors Eng’r Amina T. Dalandag of MILG Maguindanao Field Office, and Cader D. Indar, Jr. of Lanao del Sur Field Office.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted โ€œYesโ€ in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11.
