(SDN) — THE United States of America has breached the 0.1 million confirmed cases at 100,657 Covid-19 infections.

All figures/statistics are from the Covid-19 Dashboard of the U.S. Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore, Maryland.

At 1:27 p.m., March 28, 2020, Manila time, the U.S. infections stood at 104,686; China is only the third highest country at 81,946.

Italy comes second in confirmed cases — 86,498.

America new epicenter of Covid-19

The U.S. incidence marks the world’s highest tally of SARS-CoV-2 cases, the virus that causes the Covid-19 diseases.

Worldwide confirmed cases have now reached 590,594 (now at 597,335).

On Thursday, March 27, the U.S. surpassed the cases in China, where the viral outbreak has its epicenter in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. The contagion was first reported by Chinese authorities in December 2019, but some say the infections may have started in November from a market for seafood and wild life.

As the cases of infections in China has tapered off as shown in news reports, the Chinese government has closed entries for all foreigners, fearing a second wave of cases brought in by outsiders.

Italy, Europe’s epicenter

In the Top 5 confirmed cases include Spain (fourth), 65,719; and, fifth, Germany — 50,871.

Global fatalities now at 27,365 and Italy has the most with 9,134. Spain, 5,134; Hubei Province alone (China), 3,177; Iran, 2,378; France, 1,995.

The U.S. is now being described in news reports as the new epicenter of Covid-19 infections.

Not all is a grim tale

Rising from the ashes of the fatalities is one good story. The number of recovered novel coronavirus patients has climbed to 131,712. Hubei Province has registered the most number of recoveries from the virus, 62,098; Iran, 11,133; Italy, 10,950; Spain, 9,357; Germany, 6,658.
